Police were alerted to the elderly man’s body by neighbours who had not seen him for some time at the apartment block in Dixon Street, Te Aro.

Police say it appears the body has been there for some time and the death is not thought to be suspicious.

Area Manager Alice Kirk says HNZ meets with its tenants and does regular inspections on its properties at least once a year but needs to balance the checks with tenant privacy.

“In areas where we have a number of tenants, such as the apartment building in Dixon Street, we encourage our tenants to meet their neighbours and keep an eye out for each other,” Ms Kirk says.

“We recently held a BBQ at the Dixon Street complex in partnership with St Vincent De Paul to help our tenants there to get to know each other better.”
