Nia Glassie’s mother due to be released on parole

Nia died on August 3, 2007, from head injuries after being repeatedly kicked.

Kuka was convicted of failing to protect and provide the necessaries of life for Nia who was killed at the hands of others.

Nia had suffered weeks of horrific abuse, including being put in a hot clothes dryer, wrestled, shoved in a sandpit, having objects thrown at her, cold baths, being thrown in a rubbish hole, hung on a clothesline and spun around, kicked and punched in the head.

Wiremu Curtis, who was Kuka’s partner, and his brother Michael were sentenced to life imprisonment for Nia’s murder, with a minimum non-parole period of 17 years.Michael Pearson, 21, William Curtis, 50, and Oriwa Kemp were also sentenced to jail time for their treatment of Nia.
