Ms Huxham told the court she has been diagnosed with PTSD and other anxiety related disorders, had struggled to find work and hadn’t used public transport since the incident.
“So when people ask me how this has affected my life it can pretty much be summed up in one word – I’m destroyed.”
She burst into tears several times as Judge Ian Dearden handed down Chapman’s sentence.
Judge Dearden described the offences as “appalling, despicable, digraceful, disgusting”.
He said it took extraordinary courage for Ms Huxham to appear in court to read out her statement in front of the person responsible for her ordeal.
“Relationships end, but that doesn’t mean it’s okay for you in any way whatsoever to treat this young woman in the most appalling and despicable way which you did,” he told Chapman.
