Ex-principal Michael Hogan on child sex charges
A former Canterbury principal has acknowledged indecent sexual offending in his early teaching career.
After name suppression was lifted in the Christchurch District Court on Wednesday, the man can be named as Michael William Hogan, 54.
Hogan was the principal at Prebbleton School until the end of last year, but the offending he admitted occurred against a boy under 16 between 1990 and 1992 when Hogan was teaching at a small school in Southland.
Hogan, on Wednesday, pleaded not guilty to nine charges of sexual violation but did not enter a plea to six charges of indecent assault.
Defence counsel Grant Tyrrell said his client acknowledged indecencies occurred between 1990 and 1992 but police needed to amend or file alternative indecent assault charges due to drafting errors before Hogan could plead.
