Stormy weather on the way for North Island

Aucklanders can expect heavy rain, strong winds and perhaps even the odd thunderstorm today.

MetService meteorologist Karl Loots said forecasters were expecting widespread rain right across the North Island throughout the day.

He said the rain would spread from the northwest and then sweep across the North Island, becoming heavier throughout central parts of the north this afternoon.

“That rain is already starting in the Northland region, it’s going to be moving into Auckland in the next hour or so.”

Today Aucklanders could expect rain with heavy falls and evening southwest gusts which could reach 90 km/h.
